Trips in 2007

Now that my free-spirited travel days are over I am dependent on work to keep things interesting. The downside of business trips is you do not get to pick the destination or time of season, but the 4 star hotels, fancy restaurants and taxis on company expense makes up for it. All-in-all, a far cry from the old days of ratty hostels, street food and hitch-hiking ! Exotic business trip number 1 of the year was to Edinburgh, Scotland (1/2007).

Ski trip to Alta, Utah (3/2007).

Exotic business trip number 2 of the year was to Norway. I managed to sneak-in some play time in the beautiful fjord country of the west coast. Pulpit Rock near Stavanger is one of Norway's most famous sites (6/2006).

People often moan that they never see anything during business/work trips. With enough forward planning and creative use of time, I have always managed otherwise. Tramping about the Lysefjord in western Norway (6/2007).

Stavanger, Norway (6/2007).

Bergen rests on a stunning setting with fjords on one side and mountains on the other. Morning hike above town (6/2007).

Bergen from above (6/2007).

Waterfront, Bergen, Norway (6/2007).

The train journey from the fjords of the west to Oslo climbs as high as a thousand meters through Norway's central mountains (06/2007).

Classic Norwegian fjord scenery (6/2007).

Mid-summer family trip to the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Talus Lodge is a owner-operator run helicopter-accessed mountain lodge at 2300m on the BC Alberta border. This was my first time riding in a chopper, its very very cool and everyone should give it a go at least once in their lifetime (7/2007).

Heli-hiking from remote isolated mountain lodges is a fairly new concept. It allows access to the high country for people who are either too lazy, unfit or unable (such as my 70+ year old parents).

3 gorgeous days at Talus Lodge was the highlight of the summer 2007. It costs a bomb but worth every cent.

There is an endless supply of amazing views from the short strolls around Talus Lodge (07/2007).

3 day backcountry camping trip in the Taylor Basin region of the Chilcotin Mountains, BC (7/2007).

I sneaked away to Paris for a few days during exotic business trip number 3. You cannot take a bad picture of the Eiffel Tower. Paris (12/2007).

Eiffel Tower at night is a glorious sight, Paris (12/2007).

Paris sunset from the the Eiffel tower (12/2007).

Night lights of Paris from the Eiffel tower (12/2007).

There seems to be a monument around every corner in Paris (12/2007).

The Grand Arch at La Defense, Paris (12/2007).

1st run on the 1st day of my 2007/2008 ski season was deep powder. Spanky's Ladder on Blackcomb (12/2007).

Annual fall surf trip to Tofino on the west coast of Vancouver Island (11/2007).
