Moab – Day 9 – SLC – Emigration Canyon

Emigration Canyon is the historic route for the Pony Express, Telegraph and it was the place where Joseph Smith came over the hill and proclaimed ” This is the Place” since which time Utah has been the home of the Mormons. This canyon is now home to some great trails, a nice road for road riding and XC wheel skiing… and it has a few really good restaurants. It will soon be home to many big homes by the looks of things.

Since this is our second day off ride we drive up to the start of the trail. Martin rides his bike from SLC and Gary drives up to meet us after giving a talk at the University. We still do over 700m of climbing in a short three hours. This is a great meandering trail made even more beautiful by the changing aspens.

getting ready to ride!

Nice to remember what climbing at 6000 feet is like.

Yeah, stop to breathe!

Martin just coasts along uphill.

The light shines upon him!

Almost at the top!

The view looking down towards SLC. You can see snow on the mountains in the back from last weeks storm.

You don’t have to be religous to be inspired by this view.

We continue down the other side for a bit. The aspens in their glory.

Gary!
