Powell River and Sunshine Coast
After a friend of mine from Aikido moved to Powell River and got into biking he couldn’t stop raving about the trails. That and the BC Bike Race has been riding there for the last few years has put this area on the radar. The biggest hurdle is the Ferry, which if you have the time is a nice trip, but if you want to travel fast, this is not the best trip.
Robert’s son Thomas is also an avid biker and has been working at the one shop in Powell River, Suncoast Cycles. Its a very well stocked shop!
We took the 10:25 ferry from Earls Cove and arrived at Saltry Bay and took a leisurely 30 drive into Powell River. The first day we rode parts of the 180km Sunshine Coast Trail, Appleton and Marathon. The second day we rode sections of the BCBR course at Duck Lake. The trails at Duck Lake are pretty convoluted so its nice to have a guide! The BCBR does have signs up on its course for people who come early to preride.
Quick rip down Appleton Creek
Pretty little used trail!
Then we rode down the Marathon trail.
Shelter along the Sunshine Coast Trail
The trees were pretty close together in some sections…

Well signed too.

The next day we rode in the Duck Lake trail system.
